yeah man...auto shut downOriginally posted by wuming78:auto shut down?!
unreliable comms is unacceptable esp in a network centric warfare! hope they are either doing something about it, or abandoning it altogether.Originally posted by Guile:yeah man...auto shut down
once it reach 60 degrees or something.
its to prevent its circuits from frying.
and believe me it gets real hot.
this is one of the flaws...
just imagine, singapore's weather is so hot...u r in the middle of a battle..and yr comms fail on u cos it overheated...then u need to cool it down before switching it on again.![]()
regarding the batt of having a short life span it might have been something wrong done wif the charging or u have been allocated the batt wif a shorter life span.Originally posted by Guile:Hehe, i ddin't take part in the 2001 ex but my Bn did.
The new comms sets has its pros and cons.
One thing, its much smaller and lighter...much like the old style handphones.

Well, most of the commanders use the low capacity battery which lasted only 8hours cos we though our mission can be completed within that time frame. Apparantly we didn't and we were late by 5-6 hours so by that time most of them had flat batteries. I was the only one who used the high capacity battery which had a 20 hour life span and it lasted through the whole mission. But it was no use in the end after the rest had their comms down and I was left talking to myselfOriginally posted by ColdMilk:regarding the batt of having a short life span it might have been something wrong done wif the charging or u have been allocated the batt wif a shorter life span.
freecom sets are issued wif a normal batt box for AA batts which will only show half full even when all AA batts are new.so the lifespan as expected not much. the second batt type is the low powered rechargable batt, n the lifespan when full charged will also be shown as half full. the last wan is the big batt which is the high powered rechargable batt. as the name claims it is suppose to be the most durable n only upon full charged ur set will show its power gauge to be full. n usually during exercises, power supply is usually given a contingency of at least 200 % rite, if in the end use GSM realli jialat leh.
the disadvantage of using the freecom is that wifout the headset u cant realli hear the comms coming in unless u constantly put ur ear on the set. u can only hear the comms clearly when u r using the headset. Compared to the predecesser 732 even when the headset is down, u can still clearly hear the comms coming in thru the set itself.
Lastly the antenna for the freecom is so freaking weak, once bent it will nv revert to its original shape, so lousy pok!!!
Apart from the size n weight, i still feel that the 732 is a betta choice, run out of ammo still can throw it at ur enemy mah![]()
