Brand and Model of the SAF recce jeep

  Anyone knows the model of the open-top SAF recce jeep?
  
  I know it's a Benz with 3.2l Diesel engine.
  
  I used to be in recce and driven this jeep before. Wondering if it is possible to own such a jeep with no windscreen.

  MB290GD, it may or may not come with a 3-speed Automatic.The gearbox may give problems now and then and the downtime is quite long.

  MB290 is the small truck vehicle, should be MB240 for jeep.

  You may be right.But I've seen MB290GDs in the scout config., cuz I see them in my maintenance battalion everyday.Could be a few only.

  The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen almost certainly had its origins in the plan for a military Euro-Jeep in the mid-Seventies. When the Euro-Jeep failed to materialise, Mercedes decided to make use of the development effort they had put into the project and build a 4x4 anyway. They secured some military contracts in the late Seventies and then developed their new 4x4 as a civilian vehicle as well. It reached the market in 1979, but was not imported into the UK until 1981.

  this looks more like a 1.5 ton vehicle..wifout the canvas/cover..
  from wat i remember..jeep are gd290..the command jeep wif canvas ard(usually manually driving)..and scout jeep wifout canvas..gt gpmg holder(gt both auto and manual driving type)

  erm... nv hear ppl call it 1.5 tonner before
  Is MB290 and usually ppl juz mention MB veh in short.
  Its used to replace the old unimob veh

  dunno..haha cos in camp..tis vehicle is used by the mortar platoon..our encik always call it the 1.5 ton..dunno y..

  I see. yea, the gearbox does give problems. and the downtime is long cos there are no spares available immediately. Need to indent from the supply base.
  
  The socalled 1.5 ton, i think also called the UNIMOG right? It can carry a load up to 1.5 tons. not too bad. but not my cup of tea.
  
  Thanks for the help. BTW, anyone had owned a decomissioned saf land rover or any vehicle after the decommissioning? And converted it into a normal COE car.
