wow. a veteran amongst us!Originally posted by tkw88:Well guys, i have done my part in serving the nation.
Enlisted in 1983 & was amongst the last to be issued with Tamasek green uniforms. Did enough time during reservist to get good service & NS medals. Luckily never become officer, so can retire as I just turned 40.
For all you guys still serving -- keep it up & enjoy -- my time over liao.![]()

I was only born two months before you enlisted,You are deserving of your ROD!!Originally posted by tkw88:I was enlisted in Mar 1983; did BMT at ITD (Infantry Training Depot) at Tekong.
One fellow recruit in same batch from another coy (Charlie) died when doing 16 km route march. Sad -- guy was from HCJC, only son. The incident had been covered extensively on forums before, and has generated many stories/"sightings" thereafter. Still remember seeing the CPLs practising the funeral drill, carrying a cupboard in the parade square (at camp 1, as no camp 3 yet nor the new "resort" at jetty).
Recruit life then was different. We had to take RPL to Tekong, under hot sun & rain. Had to walk all the way from jetty to camp 1 & vice versa for weekly booking in & out. Only time we had the luxury of taking 3-tonners was when we had the ali-ba-ba bags (i.e. posting in/out). Go to 100m/300m range -- walk. Go to Botak hill or rocky hill -- walk. Go to reservoir for watermanship -- walk.
Memories ...![]()

i ROD more than 15 years liaoz...Originally posted by tkw88:Wow, enjoy while it lasts.
I did not start reservist until 5 years after ROD. Believe me, ICT can be quite tough when you are one of the oldest in the unit.
They sent me on a 4-5 weeks course at SISPEC when I was about 30 yo -- got to go through the course with 18/19 yo NSF, 5 km morning runs, drill lessons (yes, drills in SAFTI parade square), match to cookhouse, .....
Well done! Not called up for ICT for 15 years. Very unfair leh ....Originally posted by windjammer:i ROD more than 15 years liaoz...
err... kinda the gahmen dun wan to pay me for being a clerk...Originally posted by tkw88:Well done! Not called up for ICT for 15 years. Very unfair leh ....

my vocation is a clerk... u say leh...Originally posted by tkw88:Still wondering why they never call you up for ICT for 15 years. Must share secret leh.
- What unit were you in during NSF?
- Which vocation?
- PES what?
- Any special medical reason why they give chance?
- Do they call you up for annual IPPT or have they forgotten to call you up for IPPT as well?
- Or may be you civilian pay is super high (like $1m a year) that they will blow their budget if they call you up??
I received my letter this year too thanking me for my service :-) Hooray!!!Originally posted by tkw88:Wow, enjoy while it lasts.

But not yet receive my demob letter leh? What is the time gap between your 40th birthday and the letter?Originally posted by dragonstar:I received my letter this year too thanking me for my service :-) Hooray!!!
You had 5 years before your first ICT - I ROD'ed in the middle of the year and had ICT in the same year !
Hi, the time gap from my experience this year... I reached 40 a few months ago... is about one week. Your last reserve unit will send you a computerised letter (very impersonal) and tell you in one short sentence that yr liability is now over and thank you very much !Originally posted by tkw88:But not yet receive my demob letter leh? ok, thanks, my case a bit more complicated, as I was on exit permit, and my last reserve unit was a brigade hq -- so may be they have forgotten about me...Originally posted by specfore:Hi, the time gap from my experience this year...
