Three infantry training centres merged to form new institute

SINGAPORE : Three key infantry training centres have been merged to form a new Infantry Training Institute.
The three institutes are the Basic Combat Training Centre, 1 PDF Training Centre and Infantry Training Centre.
This is part of the Army's push for a third generation fighting force that leverages on technology and new skills to develop an urban operations force.
The first National Service Infantryman was recruited 37 years ago.
But today, the face of the foot-soldiers of the army is set for some serious transformation.
First, the Infantry Headquarters and the 9th Combined Arms Division have been merged to form the new 9th Division/Infantry Formation.
Secondly, this merger facilitates the formation of the new Infantry Training Institute which will provide a direct link between training and operational needs.
This includes adopting a holistic approach to the training of infantrymen during all their years of National Service.
The Army has introduced a new Infantry Badge, which will be awarded to outstanding Infantrymen, in recognition of the Infantry's contribution, which forms the bulk of the army.
The Army is also working with the defence industry in experiments to outfit soldiers with more advanced weapons and equipment.
"3 SIR will be the first battalion to be transformed into an urban-capable fighting force. We will first start off with equipping them. We'll do some experimentation on the equipment that are required to fight future urban warfare," said Chief Infantry Officer, Colonel Winston Toh.
The aim is for 3 SIR to be a fully operational urban-capable fighting force by next year. - CNA

urban capabilities.. think itslong overdue. wonder what special equipment they will provide?

ok understandeble since three reservist training centre merge, i guess less burden on manpower logistic etc..
But whats the rationale for merging 9th Division and Inf Hq?
No wonder 6th Sir moved to Maju Camp liao..
Btw, 6th Sir move to Maju Camp is proudly displayed on the banner outside Maju Camp.. -
Probably something along the lines of the US Army's 3rd Light Infantry Division.They are skilled in lightweight , fast in-fast out warfare and interdiction in urban situations.

Serious? IMO The "badge" looks more like a marketing trademark for the SAR-21. Too much commercial-branding by the designer(s). -
