my unit ( i think all units ) works in a way tat if u fail tis range, u got for the next range slot. u keep going for the marksmanship test until u pass. so tat means ur range sure pass 1 unless u really cannot make it or theres some problem with ur eyesight.

0 rifle is very important, especially if ur round is suppose to hit a target 800m away. u dun wanna the bullet to instead hit the hand or other 'non-critical' part of the guy u wanna shoot and he runs off to safety under the cover of his guys...dats the worst thing dat can happen and u won't forgive urself for dat and those on top of you won't be very the happy to know dat too....
a shot mishit is worse than a shot missed. -
i think m16 is battle, drop it throw it its still ok
but sar21 drop it dats the end of the scope
somemore m16 when no bullet u can do bayonet fighting, can do butt stroke

SAR21 lighter than M16 meh? I find M16 much lighter.

SAR21 is heavier coz it come wif a scope n LAD.
If M16 is mounted wif the LAD n the SS scope, M16 will be heavier.
Got my 2 x $200 money reward for ATP.
Nv use SAR21 to shoot ATP b4.
But went for SAR21 familiarisation for Ops B.
I find SAR21 accurate even without zeroing, somemore shooting wif 2 eyes open.
Most importantly is the fundamentals of shooting, aiming... breathing... holding... squeezing of trigger...
I tend to get "complacent" while shooting, coz the target will appear larger wif the scope.
Night shoot wif LAD is the more challenging one. haha... -

I got the badge but can't call myself a crack shot, cuz the only things I failed to known down on that day were - alamak - all the moving targets! (Albeit my M16 wasn't zeroed, but I've long struggled with this phase anyway.)
I also found the slightly-revamped format then to be "easier." Unlike my Tekong days where we had the full 300-meter rundown, my reservist shoot used proportionally-smaller targets at a shorter distance (to simulate the full-sized targets at 300m of old). To me, that's unrealistic in 2 ways: it's unpractical training for presumed enemies who're standing that far away in real life, & you can't factor in the vertical bullet-trajectory ramifications along the way too [i.e. aim slightly lower for 300m, & slightly higher for 200m).
Didn't complain about the $200 reward, though. -

wouldnt that be a boon? shorter yet lighter. wonderful for soc - now the m16 is too long, while the sar21 is too heavy for it. -

I think there's a misunderstanding. I'm seen various numbers being thrown about, & the DSTA's official stand is that the SAR-21 is lighter than the M16.
For accuracy's sake, I think it's instructive to note whether a 30-round magazine is included for each weapon when doing comparison.
Also, the SAR-21 can be very heavily accessorized. There's the scope & laser pointer, of course, but also a detachable foregrip, tactical lights, 40mm underbarrel grenade launcher, amongst others. DSTA was also quoted in the media as saying the weapon ended up weighing "more than 8kg" when added with certain weapon sights (night vision) & additional sensors (underbarrel TV camera attachment to shoot around corners). The newer experimental version was supposedly "3kg lighter" with less bulky/lighter sensors. -
Okay people...look.This is from ST Engineering.Weight of the SAR21 is 3.98KG with laser and optics.So it is defintely heavier then the M-16S1.So if the weight of the SAR21 is 3.89KG a new version being reduced in weight will weigh in at .89Kg?So how is that possible?
Ok,fired both weapons.Feel that SAR21 is superior except for the fact that it is difficult to do combat reloading,the charging handle feels "breakable",selector(semi and auto) is difficult to manipulate and the laser and optics sumtimes are off.
M-16 wise,its a battle proven weapon,no doubt.For me,I find that it is too long,cumbersome at times,feels heavy when supported for long periods while standing and firing.And its rather IA prone.
In my opinion,the best weapon is the M-4 Carbine,Car-15 Carbine or G36C Carbine. -

SAR 21 will NOT,I repeat again,WILL NOT REPLACE the M16S1 rifle.This was disclosed to me by my unit CO.SAR 21 basically is use to arm a few combat units.Eg:Infantry,Guards,SOF,Tankees.
All recruits still train to use the M16S1.They must know the basic of firing the M16S1.What if while in battle,their SAR 21 fails to work and they pickup a M16 and doesn't know how to handle it or fire it,they will sure die lah. -

got 1 sibei long 1 for the sizing up..
i won't fear lar..if combat comes i pick up a m-16..
the best option left at most test fire a few rounds lor..
generally rifle easy to use lar..considering if they leave you
1 artilery gun for u to use.. -
After u master the basic like m16S1 . i hope i can mode my rifle like this and throw away SAR21
