selection criteria for MP

whats the selection criteria for MP? .. cos some of my platoon mates got selected....
dunno whether its height... cos some of the selected were also not very tall while some of the taller guys in my platoon also were not selected for the interview...
i wonder can i reqest to attend the interview even tho i am not selected.. mm... -

simple, to be a MP you must process these basic criterias:
1) must be singaporean, PR cannot.
2) no tattoos
3) no criminal records
4) if u are chinese, u stand a higher chance too -

come to think of it, MP man and RP are roughly the same, they still have to do guard duty, do sentry, check pass, do spotchecks etc... -

No, NSFs may also get selected for MP.
You also need a certain height, abt 1.7m I think.
Getting selected for the interview depends on your luck I guess, though if SISPEC or OCS wants you, you won't become an MP. -
Damn, if I interpret MP as Member of Parliament, then all the responses suddenly take on a different meaning ~lol~

from my understanding, MP got the procession drill team. where they prastise their rifle drill and perform on national day.
any type is the MP man, same as RP. -

SerialBox, dun worry , next time SAF going to change and more indians and malays or eurasians..will play a larger role..

During my batch of MP trainees back in the early 90s, quite a number of my platoon mates are from NPCC.....another thing is that,our instructors did say that the MPs at least must be "O" level. -

MP's are selected people of the 1, 2 and 3 mentioned.
Race is no factor. Infact other races are more welcome to balance the chinese community in SAF Provost Unit.
And for the above mentioned you are 10% right. and whole wrong.
Some MPs are attached out to other units to take care of RPs.
But many of the MPs will stay back in SAF Provost Unit, which contains 7 specialised companies.
One of which is the drill squad which is quite well known for their Silent Precision Drill. Another one is Dog Wing whom MPs are Dog handling trained. The rest of the 5 I wouldn't want to elborate much unless you do wanna sign on, ill give you advice on.
Infact the BMT interview has a great impact on your MP posting. If you turn out to be eloquent, determined and self driven, high chances after you going to command school you will be back as an MP.
Though the less chao keng one will be given opportunity into the MP family as a man.
SAF Provost Unit is a small family and a cohesive one. It seems like a small town and you will get to know everyone. A person with a chance must treasure it. =] -

just a gentle reminder: please take care that in your eagerness to do so, please do not divulge any information that should have been kept silent. i guess as the specialist in your trade, you would be in a better position than anyone else here to decide what kind of information for your trade is sensitive and what is not.

btw... askin u bout the training... i noe its a 9 weeks course at mowark camp? .. and got a 3d2n field camp at tekong.. at wat else?
is there super super regimentation and discipline observed during the trainin??

I can't read the whole lesson plan here.
The 9 weeks is to conversion course to make a infantry soldier in to a policeman. So you can imagine what you learn =]
2 weapons are very important to MPs, GPMG and P22(X). (X) is a number 0 - 9
Different level of regimentation is only observed after the 9 weeks course when you get posted to other companies.
Drill squad has great discipline, while some other companies doesn't require to be. It varies.
Sorry for the lack of information here, I have to be cautious with my words. -
As I recall, one of the animated discussions my reservist kaki's had during training downtime - plenty of time for them when out in the field - was whether SAFPU could be considered an local elite force, in the same mold as Commandos, Guards, Navy Diving Unit, RSAF Black Knights, etc.
There wasn't a consensus. Obviously, many of its sub-units have extrajuristical military powers - eg. MPs, SIB investigators, anti-riot squad - & as such SAF soldiers, regardless of rank, held them up with appropriate respect. But many of us also thought that its precision-drill unit created a negative perception, in the sense that the public thought that's all they do (beyond the "discipline master" niche within army camps).
I also believe that, come reservist, a lot of them were individually redeployed to become PDF troops, & thus "looked down" upon by soldiers with frontline, ops-ready combat outfits.
But, for BMT during my time, SAFPU was definately one of the postings the better-performing recruits could aim for (besides OCS & SAFINCO/SISPEC).
