so i will be likely ending up in BMT school 2?
Totally unfamiliar with Police NSFs, so I'm guessing School 1 or perhaps SCDF if you're PES A/B - odds are with the former if you've got more than O Levels as well. But then I can't confirm if the revised system adheres to the same enlistment philosophy of old. Maybe the SAF has changed policies - I dunno.
The old system was such that ITD ("Infantry Training Depot) Camp 1 & 3 in Tekong were for the Air Levels & Poly people, i.e. 2.5-year combat conscripts even if they don't end up in OCS or SAFINCOS. SMBT in Nee Soon Camp was for the service enlistees as well as some O Level people, i.e. 2-year conscripts.
[ITD & SBMT became BMTC School 1 & School 2 respectively when reorganized.]
That's not to say Malay NSFs were repressively segregated in the service, cuz there was/is a further "bottom-tier" of conscriptees which they were largely excluded from, i.e. the mono-intake peng. Of course, some part of it was due to the fabled ISD screening of appropriate combat appointees, but a pro-establishment Malay friend of mine chose to view things positively: according to him at least Malay soldiers end up learning more civilian-employable trade than their mono-intake Hokkien peng, be it a driving license or fire/rescue skills.
In any case, they all come together, via various vocations, to contribute in an active SAF unit. If you think about it, the "Tekong route" isn't all it cracked out to be. Who really has more prestige - the Tekong-trained CPL signaller/kopi boy for a divisional MAJ, or the mono-intake PFC Guardsman who's past of a Best Unit team?
