SerialBox... As far as i know, most mono-intake personnel are education level below 'A' levels or polytechnic diploma.
Posting out after mono-intake bmt is possible, so the vocation is not confirmed until after bmt, but chances of remaining in the mono-intake unit is higher.
I was from mono-intake, was posted out after bmt for RP course and assumed duties in another unit.
I have a friend who was a JC dropout, only have 'O' levels. He went in mono-intake and was sent to sispec after bmt.
About what you mentioned about hiongness in mono-intake... I can say their bmt system may be a little different from tekong. I was from infantry mono-intake, my bmt includes unarmed combat training which tekong trainees don't get. The banned punishments, 'change parade' and 'defaulters parade' were still used, and no one complained about it.

Mono intake refers to those who do their BMT within the combat outfit itself; they traditionally takes in those with O Levels qualifications & below, & will thus do a 2-year NS (not 2.5 years).
Don't look down on them. These guys very salt of the earth & will generally form the main body/line company personnel from the get-go, rather than the officers & NCOs & various support staff who get posted in from elsewhere (after their own leadership/vocational courses).
These guys are also those who'll likely know their (penciled) vocations the earliest, following the 1st CMPB medical checkup. Unlike the Tekong batches , the mono-intake Training Cadre also basically has complete influence on which among the recruits to retain on permanently into active-unit status. I've had the experience of making the latter recommendations before.
The BMT programme's more or less the same - weapons, physical training, IFC, marksmanship, grenade throwing, swimming, drills, etc. - but one thing my charges didn't went through, but which i did in ITD, was water-obstacle crossing. Field training was also all done in mainland Singapore. -

Mono intake Get posted to a unit 1st then BMT, after BMT, high chances are u will stay in the same unit as a man there.
1 question, does mono intake BMT at dippe barrack, home of the 1st Guards mean u will be a guardsman after POP? -

As if this matters, or if an enlistee will have a say. 1st thing recruits learn in BMT is that the world doesn't orientate around him.
I personally don't think being Tekong-trained alone makes me anything more special, even compared to my SBMT (predecessor of BTMC School 2) counterparts at Nee Soon Camp from the ancient days.
If I'm garang & super fit but isn't going to educationally qualify for OCS or SISPEC, then the possibility of being drafted into the Commando or Guards mono-intake would leave me salivating. With those guys, outsiders look at & respect the color of the beret 1st, before checking out their rank insignias. -
BMTC have all the facilities for military training, SOC, swimming pool, range, IMT, field camp, SIT test etc. so in a way good as everything is all in 1 place.
some mono intake camp might not have some of the facilities mentioned above, for example IMT and range, so they have to travel to other camp to use their facilities. some camp's recuits even come my camp for swim. -
I don't know about the mono intakes of other units. But for Commando, most of the people drafted in are educationally qualfied for OCS & definitely SISPEC. Yeah, all Commandos will make the corporal rank (2.5-year NS) at the least, mono-intake notwithstanding.

Only after a subsequent Guards Conversion Course, to earn the tab. Mono-intakers also do vocational-training, but generally not at the relevant Formation School like the Tekong "grads."
I dunno what's the current system, but for the old - Arty - format it was that the inarriving BC, BSM (both regulars) & Arty NCOs (10th-month NSFs) who conducted/trained together with the men during this period. The NSF officers & non-specialists would only be posted in about 3 months later, so that on paper everyone can technically ORD together 18 months on & enter the reservist ranks as a unit.
