Ah... Dangerous. Burn this into your mind - Flags are not Colours. Simple as that.Originally posted by wuming78:if even the CDF needs to salute the flags (also known as colours), what do you think?

Colours are individual items that have been consecrated at a parade by religious leaders. There are no two Colours that are alike. They are guarded at all expenses.
Flags are the ones that Gordonator posted up, "massed-produced" and not individually consecrated.
A simple example of the difference is that flags are not entitled armed escorts when paraded, while armed escorts must always be provided for Colours.
Only the Navy refers to their flags as Colours, this is their tradition, not the norm.
Not many people realise the difference between flags and Colours.

I see... That is very interesting. Based on my research, the Army Service Colours is at Pasir Laba, and the other two are under the custody of the respective services. Finally someone can confirm the whereabouts of these three elusive Colours.Originally posted by NeonTetra:yup....they r displayed in a glass showcase at MINDEF lobby

Anyways, these three Colours are already retired, and they cannot be carried on parade under any circumstances anymore. The Army Colour in particular is 32 years old! Do take a second look at it when you walk pass them![]()
The Service Colours have all been retired in 1991 and 1997. After they were retired, the system of Colours were streamlined to include only State Colours and Regimental Colours. They are the ones you see on NDP and SAFDP.Originally posted by NeonTetra:retired? so now use wat?
It depends on the situation.Originally posted by tkw88:I believe the question is how to position the flags.
I ahve read a book written by a US diplomat. The national flag should be in the centre on a raised platform.
When being displayed with flags of other countries in Singapore, our own national flag should be positioned on its own right -- i.e. the audience's left.
