could ppl tell mi, is this bond worth it. cos mi now in poly studying dip.in applied food science and nutrient, 1 semster gone liao. then very tired of working for pocket money very confused now pls help mi thks

How is Applied Food Science relevant? Simple.... go quality inspector for SFI loh. *lol* NEVER sign on for the money, you will end up dreading it and then doing silly things (which you will regret later) to break your bond.

To me im going because i like the army and also got benifits like
school fees they pay for you and for me get 700$ per month for pocket money
its all up to u man....

1. "Iron" rice bowl last time
2. Shelter from economic crisis
3. Steady income
4. Respect from pple when u say u from armed forces
5. No chio charbo..
6. All from army wear army uniform cover up like taliban(quite hot)
7. Sense of responsibility and command..
8. STRESSFUL..sometimes..heard 1 WO fell to MRT tracks due to overstress
Bad points
1. War..you know what happen
2. My family members was in army also (Damn tough to get promoted)
sian my family members KNOWS --some-- MILITARY STUFF
(and they dowan to tell me classified stuff even when i di siao them)
so i ask u all lor
3. Steady pay also means getting the same pay..
4. Cannot be bill gates or millionaire..
5. Bounded by alot of rules
6. Skills not relevant to industries..

actually i am encouraging my brother to sign on as a senior tech in airforce.
He's going to poly next year and the monthly allowance of up to 1k is going to help a lot as we are not so well-to-do.
he likes aerospace stuff, so probably he's staying in there for like 6 years or so, then switch over to commercial companies. nice income + gaining work experience. further it's like working for 4 years (minus 2 years of ns).
Otherwise for combat vocations, i wouldnt encourage....what experience will you get when u decide to come out after 6 or 10 years in saf? sell insurance? -
My friend who nearly signed the bond backout at the last minute. He realised that the opportunity cost was too great. It outweighed all the pros of the bond.

2yrs of NS = 4yrs of regular service. Plus as a technician, when i went in there is a minumum 4 years technical bond. So he'll be in there for 8 years minimum.
Maybe the plans have changed...? -
Anyway, there's no more iron rice bowl in SAF. You can get kicked out for being a lousy worker. Newly implemented.

What if, after going through BMT, you decide that you realli cannot tahan army life?... there are cases like that. But you have already signed on the dotted line, and by that time, too late to do anything already. Really no choice but to bang balls, you know
I tink must have some experience of military life before deciding whether to sign.

then don't be too hasty. I tink should talk to some guys who have gone through same thing.
Do you have a vocation in mind? Coz looking from the course you are taking in poly, you do not have technical background. So joining technical side puts you at a disadvantage compared with other regulars who possess technical background.
Combat side is well, the skills you learn are not really marketable in commercial sector. except maybe people management skills. -
