currently sispec has 4 ongoing ASLC companies, namely Delta n Golf (33rd ASLC), Alpha n Charlie (34th ASLC), due to 34th BSLC graduating.
Bravo, Echo n Foxtrot now relak jack while waiting for the 35th BSLC intake due on 21st March 2005.
hmm... touching on the malay joining ASLC coys...
sad to say.. it's true.
like wat my PC, PWO n SGTs predicted...
all the malay guys in my platoon went over ASLC.
i dunno the rationale behind but it's actually wat happened -

that's why there's isn't any malay specialists in engineers and armour. most likely they'll be posted to infantry/guards/BMTC. -
Being the optimist that I am, I hope that this is only due to staffing problems and not any other insidious reason.

SISPEC after BSLC can also become a recce specialist..
Just to tell you more about being in recce
Recce stands for REConnaisanCE and it is all about looking for the enemy and confirming the enemy sizes and locations just before your unit attacks.
During your BSLC course there is this survey form your pl mates will fill to say who is better at satcom, sniper, recce... if your name quite high on recce, and a unit decides to come to sispec to look for recce specs then you might go for an interview.
Should you choose to say yes, after BSLC you'll be posted straightaway to that unit. (1SIR for me).
There are 2 main kinds of recce specialists. Both are combat.
the first is a scout. that is on a battalion level. the 2nd is a brc (brigade recce company) specialist. in my opinion, scout is more xiong. always got a lot of mission and exercise. brc is more slack because they mainly only take part in brigade exercise which are very very few.
for you new PTE's who dunno the diff between battalion and brigade, for now just accept that battlaions are the SIRs and SARs (1sir, 42sar ... 6sir) and the brigades are the SIBs (8sab, 2sib...)
Life as a recce spec : tough training at first. the school of military intelligence, SMI (really fkked up place) will conduct recce commander course(RCC). very xiong. trust me. but will really make you very tough.
when your men come (the cpls and lcps) you all will go for your scout platoon, brc course. which is a toned down version of the RCC for your entire platoon/company. Also at SMI.
Exercises : A lot of freedom. the rest of the unit always have to show alertness like wear helmet all the time. must sleep in intervals, 33% alert all that crap. but recce is BO CENG HOO! so nobody will touch you. in a team of 4 people, the 3SG is the one who call the shots. but in a team of 4 people, you have to be good enough not to get lost (we usually bring our GPS, which we bought) and strong enough to carry the spirits of everyone else cos you are SO INDEPENDENT. Then there are amneties like
-no need wear helmet (but SMI makes you carry them around)
-no need dig shellscrape / firetrench (but SMI makes you. told you they are fukkked up)
Comments : expect shittt like "you're the scouts. you're the pride of the battalion. you're the elite" when you are not really that power. the pride that everyone else wants to instil in you will never be. Instead me and my mates found our own sense of pride.
A pride of doing something special. very few people will get to do. Our pride of being true to ourselves and our platoon. Our pride of having to be close brothers when a lot of people in the unit like to jeer at us (yes they do) -
to get to SISPEC, is there like what educational qualifications? i quit my course in poly as i found that i've absolutely no interest in that subject. so only got o lvls now..

but during my BMT, i have this platoon mate, only O levels, in the end still make it into SISPEC. (but sadly, BSLC OOC liao). -

Abt SISPEC thingy, is it dat after 3 mnths BMT, den they posted to BSLC all dese? i thought like they posted us straight to infantrys/guards.
