A portion(maybe a flank) is barraged by missile batteries or artillery...
so they need reinforcements quickly....
so Guardsmen will be sent in to bolster the weakened units...
tit for tat...everyone needs everyone...
like the 101st in WW2.... Guards arent occupational units....they're an 'offense based-aggressor' unit..
Infantry on the other hand tends to be jack of all trades but never an expert at anyone of them.. -

and able to validate your statement? what is your source? cos from what i know there are no differences. i may be wrong.
if i'm a guardsman, i will be getting $200 as my combat allowance, which will be $650 if i'm a commando, i will be getting $300 as my combat allowance, which will be $750 if i'm in a cambat unit other than guards and commando, like infantry and armour, i'll be getting $100 as my combat allownace which will be $550. -

Yar, I know, me from combat unit. Every year only cdo, gds, sir or sar are eligible for the best combat unit award.
But combat engineers are still combat vocations mah, so I dunno they go by combat vocation or combat unit rule. -

Guardsmen are highly mobile fighters, which is why they are heli trained.
Their choppers can take them into enemy territory, though not as covert or fast as CDO.
Their objective is not to guard an objective, but rather weaken/capture an objective and pass it to support infantry bn to occupy. They by themselves will be too weak to defend it, but they are agile and with a silght firepower edge over normal infantry, esp at the bde side.

Guards are used to provide first strike capabilities for the SAF..
they need infantry too to take over an objective with superior numbers...

The difference in combat allowance sounds about right. I don't know how the pay scales have changed since I ROD'd (not ORD'd, mind you - shows how far I go back
), but my take-home pay as a Commando corporal was about the same as that of an NSF infantry 2LT. The infantry officers earned a bit more than us, but we didn't have to make CPF contributions. It's been a while, but back then I think our combat allowance was $200, on top of our rank pay - if I recall correctly, my last drawn pay was $545. Also, once a year we got $300 for completing one jump in each quater of the year. -

those with the capbadge under command of 7th bde are under 7th bde.
these include the guardsmen, and the other vocationalists. an unconverted medic is only infantry trained, hence, the qualification to wear the infantry beret. since guards is essentially an infantry vocation. almost everyone pass out frm bmt is infantry trained at the least.
for the blue beret, can only conclude that there are support arms units under 7th. afaik, don't remember 7th has support arms when i was there. hm.. even mt line also wear green beret. -
