How Long Does It Take For You To Get Promoted?

Hi pple , nowadays i seen quite alot of young pple become a newly comissioned officers..promoting of ranks can be very fast..in the instance of our PM Lee who managed to rose to a BG in a not many years of service compared to his peers...
I also have seen some "veterans" whereby after so many years..

Officers and specialists are different.
What are you comparing to be exact. -
9 months' OCS to get commissioned as 2LT. 5 months' SISPEC to get 3SG. 2LT will advance to LTA when near to ORD. That's basically it for NSFs.
Come reservist, the CPT & 2SG (or higher) promotions will depend more on unit-appointment designations.
For regular officers, my impression is you'd better make MAJ by age 29-31, & then LTC by age 35-37, or else the "condemned" label or peaked-out "ceiling" will be increasingly pressured on you. Of course, the SAF hierarchy is pyramid-structured - the higher you climb, the more limited the vacancies available.
LHL's status is different; he's a pioneering 1970s SAF scholar from the days when the military was trying to professionalize its officer corps. Such high-fliers still climb relatively rapidly nowadays, but not as quickly. For example, there's an online MINDEF news release from 2000 that said "LTC Hugh Lim U Yang & LTC Soh Poh Theen [are] among the youngest LTCs to be promoted to COLs at the age of 35", as a hint of the SAF promotional pace. -

And what appointments they give you, the estabs of each appt matters too. If you heng sit on estab where they require a COL instead of LTC, basically if you do well your promotion increases also....not forgetting the estab u ARE sitting on currently. -
That's very true.Unit, vocation,staffing reqs and even which service you belong too plays a part.Though there is a general scale, but do +/- a few years as a conservative guess.Personally, I have encountered 26-27 year old MAJs.

I know one case now of the Dy which is SMS (if not wrong) and he has to move to another appt 'cos he upgrade too fast sia...Estab not in his favour, and end up he become another head (within the same fmn, thus become on par with him in terms of appt & estab.) vying for the promotion

Hey correct me I am wrong:
(1) If you never been appointed an Inf Bn OC but end up in Support Coy or something else. Thats about it for your career.
(2) Scholars have a direct channel to higher ups, so a non-scholar CO sometimes also must give face when he has one as his deputy.
(3) Scholars definitely (if nothing goes wrong, just mainstream performance) get to LTC. But COL must depend on performance. -

If u are in PES E or those office ppl, what are the chances of promotion? same place in office, just change rank only..
