Stubbs left out in the cold
Why don't Liverpool just save the money and sign him for free? They already spent so much. I believe that he's quite good and very suitable to be a back-up central defender.
Alan Stubbs is training on his own only two months after steering Everton into the Champions League after turning down a one-year extension when his previous contract expired last month.
Solitary training sessions in local parks are the norm for Stubbs, who is now the only one of Everton's contract rebels not to have re-signed for the club or found new employment following Alessandro Pistone's decision to accept a new two-year deal on Thursday.
Stubbs' advisors are in talks with other clubs but it is thought the tough central defender would happily extend his career at Goodison Park if he was offered a similar deal to that which Pistone has agreed.
Italian full-back Pistone, like Stubbs, rejected a 12-month contract and had seemed likely to return to his homeland with Lecce.
But that deal broke down and Everton, who have been struggling to add to their squad this summer, compromised by offering Pistone a two-year contract.
And Pistone said: "It is definitely good for me because it is a big challenge in the season coming with the Champions League.
"I think it is a very good thing for me in terms of my career so I am happy about it. There was a point when I thought that maybe I would not be coming back.
"But I have always been in contact with the club and always been in negotiations during the period. I am happy that at the end we have reached an agreement because this is what I wanted from the beginning."
He told www.evertonfc.co.uk: "I said last season that this is where I wanted to stay because I have found a good club with good people and I was happy here.
"It is good to be involved in a competition like the Champions League. I cannot wait, I am sure it is going to be a good season."
