Liverpool & Arsenal will also meet in the FA Cup
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez and his Arsenal counterpart Arsene Wenger believed their Carling Cup game should not have been postponed.
Referee Martin Atkinson decided to call the quarter-final off due to heavy fog.
Benitez said: "I think we could play. "You cannot change the decision. You must respect it but we don't agree."
Wenger added: "It's disappointing because the young players had a good opportunity to play. I think it would have been very interesting."
With both teams involved in four competitions, no date has yet been given for when this Carling Cup tie can be played at Anfield.
Liverpool and Arsenal are also due to meet in the FA Cup third round.
Benitez added: "Myself and Arsene Wenger tried to convince the referee that we could play, but it was impossible.
"The referee said that he could not see the different colours and that it would be difficult for the linesmen.
"But you could see both goals clearly from the centre-circle and the referee said no. I'm surprised because we felt we could play in those circumstances.
"The question now is that, if we draw against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round, when can we play the game? Maybe we need to play both cup ties in the same game!
"If the FA Cup game is a draw, then they will maybe have to move the League Cup semi-final to fit this game in."
Wenger said he would have happily played the match on Wednesday but there was not enough time to put everything in place.
"It is impossible in 24 hours to rearrange a game," he added.
Referee Atkinson said he had endeavoured to get the game played but he had to consider not only his fellow officials and the players but also a full house at Anfield.
"We were informed at 1600 GMT this afternoon the conditions were quite bad and we got to the ground at 1650 GMT to have a look at it," he said.
"It is very misty and has been for the last three hours. We have been in the stands, looked round from different angles from a spectators' point of view and the weather is not getting better - you can't see some parts of the pitch." -

New date for Liverpool v Arsenal cup tie
Liverpool's postponed Carling Cup quarter-final tie against Arsenal has been rearranged for January 9, just three days after the two clubs meet in the FA Cup third round at Anfield.
The Carling Cup match should have taken place last night but was called off an hour before kick-off because of heavy fog.
January 9 was actually the date for the first leg of one of the semi-finals but with both clubs having packed schedules early in the new year was the first available date

If I am Wenger, I will save the legs of the 1st team and send in the reserve team.
Give the reserve team some exposure to experience the frightening mood at Anfield.
It will be a real test on the youngsters.
As for Ah Ben, he may also send in the 2nd team to save the 1st team from very obvious match burnout.
It will be exciting to see how the anfield fans would react. -

As written by Ian Rush on 9th Jan 2007, Liverpool is the best of the rest, excluding Chelsea, Arsenal and Man Utd.
After the Arsenal match, Liverpool is back to square one, with the increased injury.
I guess there will be another round of Stevie leaving if Liverpool cannot qualify for CL next season.
Questions will be raised again on the quality of the players bought by Ah Ben.
Ah Ben have to be responsible for throwing the match away. -

I fell asleep after the first half .... 4-1 really did a knock-out punch on me ....
woke up around 7am , saw from my handphone Livescore , we lost 6-3 , me continue sleep , this time i fainted ! -
Honestly ...... i felt from the first half , we played for the sake of playing , nothing of a sense of competition , even we were 3-1 down ..... very unlike the Real Liverpool .
I can sense from the beginning .....that we are bound to lose , we did .
It's good also la , now we have only got the Top-4 and UCL to chase after , so this might be a blessing in disguise , we might just be able to stay focus , play less games in a week .
I'm sure we will bounce back with a win at Watford ....rest assure .
