Suspect shot in attempted robbery at Maybank branch in Singapore
SINGAPORE : A 43-year-old man has been critically shot by a Cisco officer after an attempted armed robbery at the Maybank in Upper Bukit Timah Road.
Police say the suspect entered the bank at 1.35pm with his face masked with a piece of cloth and wearing a jungle hat.
He grabbed a male customer by the neck and pointed a weapon at his face, yelling "Robbery" in Hokkien (Pak Chiow).
The Cisco guard on duty fired two rounds at the robber, seriously hurting him.
Channel NewsAsia understands he was hit in the head and on the shoulder.
No one else was injured.
The suspect had been operated on at the National University Hospital and is said to be in critical condition.
Investigations are still ongoing.
Maybank says this is the first attempted robbery on the branch in all its 43 years of operation in Singapore (since 1961).
The bank is closed and its staff are undergoing counselling. - CNA -

SINGAPORE: A Hong Leong Finance branch along Joo Chiat Road has been robbed of $10,000 cash. Police were notified of the robbery at about 4pm on Friday.
Police understand that the culprit, armed with a kitchen knife, had rushed into the bank, jumped over the bank counter and forced open a drawer. Staff at the scene were not hurt.

The news also said that the robber took a hostage, who struggled and broke free, then the guard shot him. Sounds like a scene from a movie

What the CISCO officer was using has to be the taurus revolver, the standard issue for most uniformed personel ( excluding special units). Haha... I like you thought of what if the bank officer doesn't understand Hokkien. Well, I guess if you go into a bank, masked and carry a revolver like thing, I think you don't have to understand Hokkien to know that it's a robbery? Haha... This reminds me of a Mr Kiasu Cartoon Strip some time back.
The scene is at a bank, whereby all the customers were queueing up for their turn to be served by the counter officer. This bank robber to a counter and pointed a revolver. The bank officer and the customers at the queue were all horrified. However, Mr Kiasu picked up those barricades or dividers that you see in banks that form the lines where people queue up ( what's that call huh) and whack the robber.
However, his intention was not so much to save the day, except being Mr Kiasu, he hates it when the bank robber jumped the queue? Haha... -

Is there some award for the dumbest robbery to go for the robber..?

that is really a dumb robber lah...anyway i met Mr Took today.. he dont look much like a killer to me though...He did manage to give me a smile to say hi.. hmmm.... oh well...

Well, this CISCO officer fired 2 shots. Was reading another forum that he could get into trouble if the 2 shot was deemed to be unnecessary and only one shot was required. He could be charged with using excessive force.
Any comments on this? -

Seems like most members of the public arent aware of the Taurus weapon in use yet....the media makes the laser beam sound like such a big deal!
Anyway, i stepped into class today, and the first thing my mates brought up is this episode asking me for my verdict. Kaoz....just shows how they like to think matas, even semi matas, are supposedly omni-present or something. -

I mean at that split second how would he have the time to decide when, whether and how many rounds to fire such that his decision would be consistent with that of his superiors reviewing the case? btw does this new Taurus revolver have to cocked after each shot? If it is automatic then isn't it even easier to accidentally squeeze off an extra round in a fit of nervousness before you can ascertain that the guy has collapsed and isn't a threat anymore?
