SOC, K9 and STAR units...

I was wondering...when a police officer wants to apply for one of the above..he has to go through interviews and selection....
1. How is the interview...In what scope is the questions in the interview?What are they looking for?
2. How is the selection done?? -

STAR is a 1 day screening, if u pass then u go for a week or 2 of training cum 1-2 interview, if u pass the interview and the training then u got into STAR to go for a 16-20 week training to learn the basics. then u can/may learn sniping, diving etc etc during your tour of duty.
once u finish the 16-20 week u are eligible for the few hundred bucks of allowance bonus that will go ontop of your current pay so ur pay is x+bonus. u will need to earn the bonus as there are 3-4 physical training u must pass per year, if u fail then u will not get ur bonus until u pass.
u must not have colour deficiency or night blindness. degree also cannot be too high per eye. be able to don contact lens for 10-16 hrs without taking it off. cannot have phobia of heights. ability to work as a team and follow orders. gd physical fitness and mental alertness. ability to work under pressure and stressful surroundings. be able to swim rather well and fast.
note dat u will go for Basic airborne course to earn dat airborne badge -
well...my degree is abt 100 to 150 for both eyes but high astigmatism...so that means i need toric lenses instead and am able to wear contacts for a long period of time..anywaes...how abt the SOC?...just curious on wat a trainee must do to be admitted to the SOC.....as in interviews...requirements...things like that..Originally posted by chunyong:K-9 can be said to be dog unit but they are refining the training now. hmmm....STAR is only after you get experience in the force before you join.. that means no direct entry.. SOC trooper or K9 unit has direct entry from TRACOM... the interview is simple, tell your OC squad you are interested in it and they will send you for the interview.. then in your selection of your choice of unit.. you put SOC or K9.. anyway if you want SOC, confirm go in if your IPPT is silver and above.. they need more slackers in there right now...

soc no need interview, as long as ur CO recommend, their CO sees dat u are suitable then ok liao. of cos u can request for SOC prior to posting out. if u are into SPF for a living, go to division/NPC is better, u have better prospects and choices there. if u go to SOC is rather very limited....not really advised unless u want to go STAR. i know one fella who requested out from STAR to go to division also. plan well, cos if u are a JO/PO once u land ur foot on a post, its normally 3-5 yrs stuck there unless u are a high-flyer so if u don't plan well, ur next destination will be out of bounds to you cos they want someone with certain skills dat u definitely will not have if u are in PCG/SOC....hence, they normally won't take u in unless really bo bian or u have reached ur 'shelf-life'. if u are a SO, doesn't really matter cos u can escape after 2-3 yrs.Originally posted by sidestep1984:wat do u mean by they need more slackers in there?

As I said before...try looking at STAR's official site at http://www.spf.gov.sg/about_spf/star/index.htm, in particular the application process, for more answers. This is of coz assuming you have not chked it out yet.

Anyway I suppose Queenstown folks prefer to drive around NUS thats why lah.
