Btw guys,am a military buff so not really into cop stuff.But just asking huh,why is it that the officers in Spec.Ops Command are armed with MP5 and a revolver
?My question here is that why are they armed with a revolver and not a semi-auto handgun?as I don't really think its tactical for SOC troopers to be armed with revolvers.Anyone know anybody from SOC or are from SOC?
And also,there was a picture posted by ST,shows this SecCom Tactical officer who is similarly armed and dressed as a STAR officer,he has a MP5,holstered sidearm on his thigh/hip and another sidearm holstered on the chest/shoulder region.Can anyone please shed some light to if this is a standard operational procedure to be equipped with 2 sidearms.Thanks... -

Btw, perhaps the SPF is cash strapped thanks to a 3% cut, but the fact remains that a revolver is always much less susceptible to IA issues then other handguns using other types of mechanism, including aemi-auto? For this reason, I would believe revolvers continue to be the weapon of choice here. -
SOC troopers are no dif from npcos in actual fact, more often than not they are used when massive manpower is needed or during riots so no need handgun for them one. now the SOC fellas patrolling residential area dun carry mp-5s liao, just taurus niah....npcos do more community policing so can't go ard with mp-5 mah, SOC is mainly arrest or deter, not so CSSP orientated.Originally posted by SpecOps87:Houndy,pm me and share leh.

u mean SecCom's CAT huh ? dats formed 1-2 yrs back...nothing much also, just a nicer name and new 'skins' just like u change the skin for your winamp...weapons wise same also, just dat its direct mp-5 and combat shotguns and not pistols. imo, CAT is redundent one...wasting of $$$$$$, heng is just a sub-unit so manpower won't get wasted.
after 9-11 alot of units came out, some are important while/but many are unfeasible ones. bo bian mah, need to wayang then people have confidence in us, if after 9-11 no wayang then people will think SG doesn't improve security blahblahblah.... -
Could it be because the revolver is more reliable as compared to a semi-auto pistol? The relvover is known for its more simple design and thus little or no stoppages.I think reliability is especially important for close range encounters with armed suspects.

Arming of British police hasnt really changed since 9/11.
They have differing armouries depending on region or constabulary.
While the standard street policeman/woman will not be armed, there are a fair amount of Firearms Officers.
The specialist Firearms Officers routinely train with the SAS, and even within the London region there will be weapon variations between local units [ie. Thames / River police and Met / SO19 / Anti-terrorist branch].
Within the Met, so19 train D/RPG's, AS, SB, and others [bodyguards, air marshals].
Weapons spotted have been the standard MP5 variants [LE variant with SA only and 10 rnd mags, as well as standard models], Glock's [usually 17], Browning [phased out], Sig's, AUG LE variants and G36's [both carbine and rifle variants]. MP5K is also used.
Marksmen have been seen with the AI [incidently recently saved from receivership] L96's.
The Smith & Wesson .38 Model 10 revolver is still issued [usually only Special Branch].
[LE variants are all usually semi-auto only, with low capacity magazines]
I say they havent changed much since 9/11 mainly because people forget that the British Isles has lived through terrorism before, for 30-40 years during the Irish troubles [which are not yet over] - a fact that seems to have been forgotten by alot of people [perhaps most of all by Americans..] - but has armed the British services with probably more active experience than anyone else in the world [indeed they are often asked overseas to lend their experience to others combatting terrorism].
As for actual shooting, police tend to be trained for centre of body mass shots and not using anything that would likely go beyond the targets body..

Taser's are now also employed.
While not strictly police, the MOD police have been issued the H&K MP7. -

we are maintaining peace and order....
If our society does not able one to purchase arms that easily, why should we be equip like NYPDs?
Taurus is enough, unless situation differs.... but of cos we have back up units if there is any situation that we cant handle on the ground... -
regular police officersare trained to handle crime scenes and confrontation. in the event when heavily armed criminals take on the officers onpatrol in revolvers, the officers will know well enough to call for backup..then is when the swat comes in u know. they should have pistols and MP5s.
it will cost the SPF more for every officers on patrol to carry pistols the likes of beretta or glock...not even regular soldiers in the army carrier pistols.
who knows maybe one day thinigs will change. wnyway i felt that certain vocations in the army should be trained and issued with pistols instead of carry assault rifles. -

Taser, why not just use taser x-26,you can take the person down without causing much hurt.I would also like to know that is it true that revovlers are only filled with 2 live rounds only?
