Armed Policemen to Patrol MRT Stations & Trains

In the article about "SECURITY ON LAND"
it states that from August, armed policemen will start patrolling MRT stations and trains.
Frankly, I think this decision is rather unwise as it make pple wonder if S'pore faces any huge threats from terrorism. Besides, now we can almost see armed policemen everywhere; like in Orchard where those SOC folks patrol etc.
Are the authorities doing too much unnecessary things like putting armed policemen all around S'pore?

Although I dont quite agree that uniforme dpersonal will make a major diff (undercover is still better), I also find it irritating when ppl say these cops are "not needed" because Singapore isnt facing any major terrosit threats.

I think it is because got too many cops around.....got to find them new things to guard....

No it's not that there's more Police nowayadys...
It's the fact that they let the SOC come out abit more these days....
and then there's those poor reservist KINS pple deployed thru out the year.. -
it is totally unnecessary.
do you feel unsafe in singapore without them walking around? i think it is just a publicity stunt. -

I think they should not be uniformed, if a terroist sees those uniformed guards obviously he would go for the kill for them first right?Whereas if plain clothes marshalls were implemented the terroist would not know who is guarding the train.

either way i am not supportive of the idea. the removal of dustbins is equally ridiculous.

I dont know if you speak for Tourists, but I do have friends who visit Singapore and commented to me that they find it strange how rarely they see cops around. Try going to other major cities in Asia, such as Bangkok and Hong Kong, and see how many cops you can find on the streets, and yes, in their trains. It is obviously not tourists who need to get used to seeing cops all over. It is Singaporeans. I suppose the Singaporean public needs to be "taught" to get used to this sight, as part of psychological defence. If Singaporeans get all gittery just bec of their bigger presence, then what happens will something really happens, and people start panicking and thinking something big has happened everytime they see cops around? -

I believe the government means well to the well being of us and perhaps make reservist more proactive in their work....
i'd rather be more proactive than to say in office and be an SA.... Sigh....
To think if you are doing NS in police force everything is real you carry a loaded gun and walk around and life is also in danger but most people think that we are not doing work but ever wonder places like Bankok you can see the officer sleep while on duty even smoking.... so wat freedom do we have....
Well everything is moving fast now days so bottom line is more and more stuffs to do now!

arm patrols are better at detering any form of dangerous crime in assign spaces or buildings and the reponses time is all most instances , unlike from patrol car, eta as long as 10 mins to 30 mins
but the way they project the image don;t seen to fit in with the environment.
its a good move anyway. with a dog even better. at least the dog gets to exercise.
