Senior Police Officer question.

Hi there, im gonna finished my hons degree soon and thinking of a police career. used to be a guardsman but only a cpl. i understand that SPO are officer equivalent so am i eligible to apply since i not a officer or specialist back then.
And is SPF xiong??

I believe you are eligible.. Only SPF scholars need to be SAF officers or officer cadets.

SPO are officers with the ranks of Inspector and above.
The entry rank will be dependent on a few factors such as the degree that one has. Holders of a 2Upp Hons degree and above from a recognised univeristy will be Assistant Superintendent (ASP) while those with other degrees will be Inspector (INSP).
Interesting thing to note is that while in the SAF and SCDF, other ranks will only salute ranks of commissioned officers for SAF ( 2LT and above )and senior officers of ranks LTA and above for SCDF, in the police force, a Station Inspector ( SI) is warranted a salute from the junior ranks. This SI rank is something like a warrant officer. -
Hi so Inspector is like 2LT in SAF but must salute SI too... Is there some kind of OCT rank when u r a trainee?

Another interesting thing is that while SAF Officer Cadets , regardless of service status, i.e. NSF or regular will have to put on the white bars during trainee days and most probably go through the same syllabus, it is quite different for SPF Senior Officer Trainees.Originally posted by cornyfish2000:Yes there is, i believe it's white bars also just like SAF OCTs.

Oh so NSPIs do not undergo the 'C' Course with the OBS course and Nepal training? I'm not in a position to comment much about the 'C' course or OCT course, one thing I'm sure is that 'C' course consist of more investigation training. This is in preperation for the first tour of duty of the newly passed out senior officer.
As for the OCT course, well, I'm also not in a position to provide much info for I wasn't an OCT before. According to my OCT friends, they go through OBS course but not overseas training.
Regular Senior Officer Trainees wear silver strips not silver bars. I use the word 'strip' to differentiate between that of what you see of 2LT( normally you call bar). It's like longer and it goes through the whole empaulette?
I don't have a picture of it to show you so hope that you can picture it

dun sign better....they have too much SOs, high chance u won't make it in too...if they open up application sincerely and not just opening it and then among the hundred choose 1-2....somethings are done becos they have to, not becos they want to and the end result differs by alot...

What I know is what my friends tell me lah... I never served in SPF before so ...
Anyway.. The answer to your question seems to be yes. They stay in different barracks, have different training schedules and so on. But of course there are overlaps lah whereby they do together. -

Anyway I heard from some friends there that they don't always go to Nepal - sometimes they change the destination but there's some overseas training.
Also for some of those who graduated from the local unis in May they only went in January of the following year, but there were others from different years who went in in July of the same year - I guess it depends on when the course starts. Gotta take that into consideration if you're looking for quick employment. -
