sometimes things like this happen ... no one is perfect ... as a trainee its sad that we can be helpless but thats the way it is ... so have to suck it up and be a man ... if a little scolding can make the person commit suicide he has no right to be there ...Originally posted by flyt0thesky:well, iznt the officer insulting the person? worse, wad if the person could not take it and commited suicide?

wats a red tab? u mean a red tap? or gold tap?Originally posted by flyt0thesky:a sssgt with red tab scolding someone ' stupid b l o o d y i d i o t ' just because the person smiled . Apparantly, he kept on calling the person names causing him embarrassement and pride to fall.
i personally feel that, he tinks by inducing fear into the trainees/cadets will get them to be submissive towards him. However, they would even hate him more.
i feel that he should inspire and motivate them instead of calling names of the person. he may be a legend in the past, but this is the new generation he should use different methods.
what do u guys think?
okies...i take it that this is related to the NKF saga?Originally posted by nightzip:wats a red tab? u mean a red tap? or gold tap?
I think the whole issue is much broader then just a bunch of kids whining. It is reflective of Singaporean society moving towards one which is increasingly less communal, and more individualistic. Confucianist principals are being chunked out of the window, to be replaced by American pop culture of individual rights and expression. Is this neccesarily bad? Perhaps not. But it does produce a whole range of problems all of its own, just as the old system used to have problems too.Originally posted by SingaporeTyrannosaur:I think this current generation knows how to think, and they know their rights.
The old model of leadership where you beat your underlings into submission is not really going to work, not work well at least, irregardless of how hard the old days were, the fact is, is that they are irrevelant now, harking back to the old tough days simply will not work, or bitching that nobody relates to you now for that matter.
It's softer now, but not necessarly a bad thing. They are not spartans in the end.
Well, you can't pin the blame on the switch to a different cultural mindset. It's about how you get the job done differently. If American pop culture is the downfall of society wholesale, then why is it a certain superpower is still pre-eminent today?Originally posted by huaiwei:I think the whole issue is much broader then just a bunch of kids whining. So yesterday, we have instructors scoulding and insulting their trainees to the point that they go shoot themselves. Today, we have trainees questioning and insulting their instructors to the point that they go shoot themselves too.
