What does all the short form means ?

this is curiosity on my part . There are so many short forms for long words i realised in this forum... words like ... SC,VC,SSGT,CID,PAC.. bla bla bla... wonder any place where you could get a glossary of all these short terms or not...

CID = Criminal Investigation Department -
VC is probably voluntary constabulary
