How do family members cope with your job as policeman?

Hi, I've a question for you all who are with the SPF: How do your family members cope with the fact that you have a dangerous job? I know it's rather "safe" to be a policeman in Singapore compared to elsewhere (like, for instance, US?), but danger and risks do exist.
Do you feel that you are putting your family (parents, wife, children) in some mental stress, just because of who you are?

Spore not tat bad lah, though it is still considered a more dangerous job...wonder how much more does policeman hav to pay for their insurance???

But i think working in SAF is far more dangerous than SPF. Considering the chances of training injuries as well as field duties (dealing with weaponry).

Nah. SAF training is so much safer. Unless there is range or live fire exercises, live rounds r never issued. Besides guard duty lar.
The only thing that endangers soldiers out field are themselves. Thats how I feel. Its siong, but won't kill u if u look after urself.
Of course, since Singapore is not at war or anything, chances of an soldier getting shot is lower than a Policeman getting attacked by armed suspects. -

eerr....not exactly "family" yet.......but.....no special worries or wat......in fact, i oso think it's an exciting and rewarding job which i dun mind taking up oso (but whether i qualify onot is another point lah.....)
long hours at work....always OT....then got recalls......
when got time means sleep......

I totally disagree. I've served both forces. And let me tell you how many times i nearly died in SAF training. I got stung by wasps and bees twice. Once deep in Brunei Jungle. I nearly got shot during 2 of my night live firings. The stray (illum)bullet flew a few inches infront of me while i was doing my leap and bound forward. i was forced to continue the advance leopard crawling. If i had moved slighty faster i'd not be here. 2 person i knew personally died. 1 is my senior and 1 from my batch. There are numerous ppl i've known went (OOC)out of course due to back injuries, broken arm, broken legs....blah blah blah. And all this happened in 2 years.Originally posted by Shotgun:Nah. well, they just got to get used dat u will not be sleeping at home during nighttime for 2-3 days in a week loh....

You were in the army? Thats precisely wat my senior told me. He was a medic and said tt the Brunei trip, esp, is the most xiong one. as i am serving police as my career
my family morally supported me, thats i want to say
as police officer, we already had a mind set to give up sleep time to protect the peace and order of singapore.
but one thing i had to mention
just hope your gf is a understanding type that know your job scope so u wont stress about relationship during work
as it could be dangerous when handling cases
so if u think u cant have the mind set of giving up sleep, think police is not a job for u
btw, i just finish my night shift
just reach home not long ago -

Normal police ok lah. CID and undercover work more dangerous. Irregular hours also. Difficult for family men with young children.

every job has its dangers but please lah... what can be so stressful to the family?????

The streets are safe of course. But its different when you need to go to the gang's turf to do investigation and undercover work.
