Changes to the uniform....any updates?

I think most of you (those in the force that is) are aware that there are some changes to the uniform pertaining to the name tag and the buttons, and this was published in the June issue of Police Life if I recall correctly.
2 Months hence....what has happened so far? I dont seem to see anyone with the new uniforms yet. -

oh!....buttons are now sew on liao......name tags velcro.....

Kaoz...that bad ah? There is only a tiny photo on the mag, so I couldnt see just how revolting it is going to be....

btw, does the police have different uniforms ala the no. 1 - 5 in the armed force?
i guess the police certainly has the no. 1 used in parades, and probably no. 2 for formal functions. what about 3, 4 and 5 or even more? -
No. 3 is what you normally see your neighbourhood police officers in. A slight variation though, for ranks Station Inspector (SI) and above , they are also issued with bush jackets.Originally posted by wuming78:like that where got nice?

Yes, Police does have no 1-5. Very much similar to SAF.
i guess the police certainly has the no. 1 used in parades, and probably no. 2 for formal functions. what about 3, 4 and 5 or even more?
Bush jackets are those that are tucked out, with 2 breast pockets and another 2 at the waist level.
No 4 is what you see the Police Coast Guards (PCG) wearing. No metal buttons.
No 5. Both 5(J) and 5(T).
Long sleeve shirt and tie-- 5 (T)
5(T) plus the jacket/ blazer on , then it's 5 (J)

A friend of mine in "E" Div told me that they have already been issued with the new pants. Not too sure about the top though, seems like it will take a while. Just like when the SAF changed their standard uniform issue , from Temasek green to the current camo, that took quite some time though.Originally posted by huaiwei:So anyway, they are also wearing the new pants with the side pocket? But yeah, the change in uniform in SPF isn't as drastic as a change from Temasek green to Camo. -
new pants are out.. got pocket at the side one... but those only our senoir officers wearing though...it will take a long time for them to change lah

That is the "official" reason given by SPF, and yeah, it does make sense of coz. But I personally feel that these are just accruments which make the uniform unique from all other services loh. Being unique is one thing, being practical and operational is another. ppl can use it to grab the officer and punch him

About slightly less then two months ago I went to tailor make a new set via the official SPF tailor. I wonder if I was a whisker too early to get this new version...
Do they need us to return our existing uniforms before getting the new ones? I would hate to do so. -
division is issuing it from the store though.. but must go to tailor to make it.. store still have the old set though...as long as the uniform dont resemble anything PCG.. i be quite happy otherwise

Haha.....early rumours was that it was something close to the PCG/SOC one...i think it was a misunderstanding due to the "sewn-on buttons" and velcro nametags and so on. But that is precisely how it was related to what I was saying earlier about accruments having no real practical use loh. Just as the chain was an occupational hazard, the buttons arent exactly conducive either, and hence arent exactly "practical." But as what was officially mentioned, they are keeping it to "distinguish" the uniform loh.
Aiyah, whatever the case, so long that it still looks smart, presentable, and still have a reasonable level of comfort, and I will be ok with it lah. In fact, I am ok even if it becomes the PCG version. Either go completely utilatarian, or go "showey" (aka HK cops).....not half here half there! -
hmmm...sewn-on button is ok...the name tag i heard is those normal plastic name-tag but instead of a pin, is velcro....
