I don't think that pass is required for your fitness test if you decide to sign on prior to your full time national service. At least officially that is not a requirement. You must be certified to be either Pes A or B and that's enough. Of course the other requirements such as min education level and eyesight and so on must be met. NAPFA is not a requirement. However, you are expected to pass your IPPT before you finish you basic training during the first 6 months. Otherwise you may not be able to pass out ...not too sure if they will terminate you employement or not. -

A pass for IPPT is required to get into SPF..

Wonder if BMI is a requirement in SPF?
My understanding is that in SAF, you not only have to pass your IPPT, you must have a BMI lower than 28. Otherwise, you can't be promoted. -

For Asians, BMI of 18.5- 23 would mean acceptable weight, from 23.3- 28 is overweight. Anything more than that is obese. Some people are bigger in size but they can still do well in IPPT. Sometimes you can't really tell if someone is overweight or not unless you weigh him. But like I said, if that person can pass IPPT, I think that's more important?
I remember going for my annual IPPT some years back. There's this "uncle" taking his very last IPPT, which makes him Cat "Z1" or "Z2" ( can't remember). His tummy is really huge, and he had some difficulties doing sit ups. One look you can tell he is overweight or maybe even obese. He barely make it for his sit ups. However, when he went for 2.4 run, he did it under 10 mins.
I was a Cat "X" and still got overtaken by him.... -

Well...since my IPPT test is coming, might as well re-activate this thread.
How come u guys so concerned about the BMI thingy ah? Mine is almost close to being overweight, but I dont think anyone will believe if they see me in person loh. -

for my medical checkup...was given PES D bcos the MO wasnt sure abt my eyes...
during the ht and wt checkup...the sergeant was shocked that i registered a 30 for my BMI and wrote me a personal letter to the MO to take my shape into consideration....
then....
after my eye check up a month later...i was given PES BP...still for my weight....
then i got Silver for my NAPFA and a few days later...i got upgraded to PES B...so yes...they do take it into consideration... -
So complicated.. i one shot already PES B.... ahahha....
