SCDF receives 20 calls during power failure, 8 of them for help in trapped lifts
SINGAPORE : The power failure may have been short in terms of time the power was out, but it still kept agencies like the civil defence busy.
An SCDF spokesman told Channel NewsAsia it received a total of 20 calls, and 8 were for help to rescue those in stalled lifts.
The Land Transport Authority said operations at two ERP gantries were affected but this was rectified within the hour when power was restored.
Meanwhile, it was life as normal for most Singaporeans despite the power failure.
Tan Shi Ying who lives in Choa Chu Kang Avenue 2 was busy with her computer, when she was caught by surprise by the power outage just before 4pm.
"I was playing with computer game and then suddenly it blackout. My friend messaged me and asked if there was a blackout at my house too," said Shi Ying.
But over at the Golden Mile hawker centre, it was dining and cooking with candle-lights until the lights came on.
"The lights went off suddenly and I was shocked at that time. I don't know what is happening, but the business has to continue," said a hawker.
At several other areas, such as Jalan Eunos where our news team was, road traffic and business was normal.
Many were also happy that power was restored before the evening peak period.
News of the power failure which affected some parts of Singapore came as Singaporeans were just recovering from Tuesday's spell of a heavy downpour which affected a large part of the island and disrupted the lives of many people.
But the good thing was power was restored to the affected areas quite quickly. - CNA /ls
