Mustafa centre fined S$17,000 for safety violations
SINGAPORE: Mustafa centre has been fined S$17,000 for two charges of fire safety violations in its premises.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), the centre
was fined on Tuesday for overcrowding, as well as for using the
external corridor for retail purposes without a permit.
The centre has chalked up some 37 counts of fire safety violations over the past three years.
According to SCDF, these include "serious episodes of overcrowding".
There were occasions where the occupancy load at the first level of the
main building had exceeded the limit by more than 50 per cent.
SCDF said that such violations are "serious" as they compromise the safety of the patrons in the shopping mall.
It added that it will continue to take tough enforcement actions against recalcitrant offenders.
