while the movie itself really uses a lot of old school effects and tried n tested tricks to scare, the real underlying theme of the show is that ghosts are mostly harmless, and that humans do not have a wide enough perspective of the world.
in the show, shu qi's character keeps thinking the ghosts want to harm the pregnant women'c unborn child when in reality, they just want to be reincarnated. what the director is trying to show, i believe, is the narrow-mindedness of humans.
also think its a rather sad show, with regards to the r/s between shu qi's character, the guy she was with, and the ghost who was following her. -

SINGAPORE : MediaCorp's Raintree Pictures' "The Eye 2 " has become the biggest horror film opening in Malaysia, outdoing many other Chinese and Hollywood films like "The Sixth Sense" there.
"The Eye 2", the second in a trilogy of horror movies, is co-produced with Applause Pictures.

It stars Shu Qi as an unwed mother-to-be who begins to see spirits after a failed suicide attempt.
The movie, showing in cinemas here, also beat Hollywood horror blockbusters to become the biggest horror film opening of all time in Singapore.
Commenting on its performance, CEO of MediaCorp Raintree Pictures, Daniel Yun says "The Eye 2", while gaining sophistication in film quality, is also gaining a strong foothold in terms of box office performance throughout Asia. - CNA

SINGAPORE : MediaCorp's Raintree Pictures "The Eye 2" looks set to break the $1 million mark in box office takings in just its first week at the cinemas, making it the the biggest horror film opening of all time in Singapore.
"The Eye 2" is the second in a trilogy of horror movies co-produced with Applause Pictures.

The first has already been a critical success internationally.
"The Eye 2" stars Shu Qi as an unwed mother-to-be who begins to see spirits after a failed suicide attempt.
And already the people behind the movie are looking ahead to the third installment of "The Eye" which will, this time, showcase young unknown Asian talents.
Mr Peter Chan, Chairman and CEO of Applause Pictures, said: "It is about a bunch of half a dozen thrill-seeking teenagers trying to play the game of seeing ghosts.
"For Asia, because we are not Hollywood, franchise or sequels has a very special meaning because the state of the industry in Asia is very scattered and loose."
Mr Daniel Yun, CEO of Raintree Pictures, said: "We wanted to work with Applause because they are producing movies that were not typically Hong Kong, Thai or Japanese.
"It is an Asian movie and is in line with what we want to do - produce Asian movies - a premise where we can once again have our artistes be in the cast and use it as a platfrom for a worldwide stage." - CNA

SINGAPORE : MediaCorp Raintree Pictures' "The Eye 2" has become the biggest horror film opening of all time in Singapore.
Chalking up some S$740,500 on opening weekend, The Eye 2 even beat Hollywood horror blockbusters like "The Sixth Sense" and "The Ring".

This is also the all-time biggest ever opening for any MediaCorp-Raintree Pictures film, surpassing popular favourites "I Not Stupid" and "Homerun".
