  Honestly, IRC is one of the worst places to get to know people. Everyone is pretentious and most are not what they say they are. It's a hunting ground for all the pervs out there. I used to go on IRC but I haven't touched it in years. Kind of realised its a waste of time. No one there seems to be able to hold a proper conversation for long. I know of people who go on IRC to create a fantastic virtual personality but in person they're probably the opposite. And when a person knows he can never be identified on IRC, he shows his true character in both good and bad ways. Just my two cents worth.
