SINGAPORE : Singapore's MediaCorp Studios and Malaysia's leading integrated media investment group, Media Prima, have teamed up to jointly produce local Chinese dramas and variety shows over the next three years.
Filming of the first drama, aptly named "The Beginning", begins this month and is expected to telecast in October during prime time on ntv7, one of Media Prima's networks.
It will feature artists from both companies.
The collaboration was announced in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia this week.
In the pipeline are co-investments to produce up to 130 hours of Chinese programmes; it could even lead to productions for third parties and overseas markets other than Malaysia.
Media Prima's advisor and CEO of ntv7, Amrin Awaluddin, says the collaboration will help reinforce its position as a serious content provider of Chinese programmes.
Deputy Group CEO (Television) of MediaCorp, Chang Long Jong, agrees the strategic alliance will be beneficial for both parties.
