Seriously these crap has to change, especially starting with mediacork drama
What do you think is the crux of the problems mentioned?
What solutions do you propose?
MediaCORK and the half fuck education system
i have a few solutions
yar, after all those hokkien drama, even my friends around me add some flavours of hokkien in our conversation -.-"
The problem lies with PAP and Lee Kuan Yew and the dominance of the peranakan elite.
The main problem is that a minority rules over majority in Singapore. That is why we have all these unnecessary problems.
This is the real issue.
I think it is time for Singapore to have a majority ruling over majority.
What do you think?
Do you support, oppose or have better ideas?
Since 1959 Singapore's political rule is that of minority over majority.
I want that to change.
I want majority rule over majority.

This person is a kid, he or she perceives differently. Does not get it.
It all starts with the "mafia" tyrannical LKY. He erodes the root of the Chinese here by introducing a NO NO to screening of hokkien, teochew and cantonese shows on TV. He erodes the root of the southern Chinese in Singapore.
A pretty evil work by him.
It should be the govt has to change not Singapore.

He does this because he knows that he came to power on the back of the southern chinese of Singapore.
This southern chinese power can make Lee Kuan Yew, it can also unmake Lee Kuan Yew.
That is why Lee Kuan Yew made the decision to destroy that power. This is actually an old british policy.

I don't understand, what is that power, would you elaborate. He is a selfish sicko.

PAP organisational power was based on the support of southern dialect chinese.
1959 PAP victory was based on the southern chinese dialect votes.

After he was elected he turned against these people by suppressing the languages they use. Sicko!
Sad to say these southern Chinese folks or oldies whose root from southern China keep voting him and party in. These people are . . . . . . .. . . .
A very ungrateful soul is LKY. He turned the table around to point they are ungrateful, we are ungrateful. Did he set any example he is a grateful soul?????
Waiting for his demise.
watch foreign channels la. There are all sorts of other Chinese dialects there.
Watch YouTube, cantonese, hokkien, teochew and ......... shows and songs available.
We are the 99%.
Almost forgot, born-singaporeans are the 60%.
Give you an eg of daily life "mandarin" in singapore:
这个 project ä½ åšå®Œäº†æ²¡æœ‰ã€‚。。。。upper management å·²ç»ç‰å¾ˆä¹…了。If let say hor, ä½ åšä¸æ¥çš„è¯,就交给 xxxx handle. 现在是很 critical 的时候,这个东西åšä¸好,整个 system 会 cork up 的。Then hor, ä½ ä¹Ÿè¦ contact 那个 supplier è·Ÿä»– explain 一下,tell him that if let say ä»– cannot meet our deadline çš„è¯ï¼Œè¿™æ ·ä¼šå‡ºå¾ˆå¤š problem 的。Oh by the way hor, ä½ å¯ä»¥æŠŠè¿™äº›èµ„料先 key in 电脑, then æˆ‘ä»¬åœ¨çœ‹æ€Žæ · settle.
I don't know about you, I know that's our way of life but having met a number of Chinese from other Chinese speaking countries for the past 4 years, something in me tells that all this has got to change. Doesn't help that our education system is not pro-active in this aspect. Doesn't help too that mediacock channel 8 that most singaporeans watch everyday, is coming up with crapshit programmes of sub-standard Mandarin.
Eg: How many of us can say "cashier" in mandarin? Don't tell me 收钱员 hor.....Higher chinese got teach or not? Normal primary school kid in China or Taiwan can thrash us flat.

There is nothing wrong objectively with Singlish sentences unless you are a purist. No language in the world has ever evolved without borrowings and mixing. Even Tok Pisin, the national language of New Guinea, is a mixed language, but no one goes to criticise it. The French that the Mauritians speaks is also a mixed French language, but it has come to become the common language that they speak everyday. Nothing wrong with that too.
Are you sure "cashier" in Mandarin so many people dunno? I dun tink so. Over-exaggerate already lah, you.
The core issue is a political issue. It centres on the power stuggle between one group against another group.
Minority group vs majority group.
Some people think that it is only an economic or educational issue. Whether this or that language is better or not.
Actually all language issues at the core lies a political power issue.

Precisely because this mentality where people think nothing is wrong, where something is wrong. I'm fine with Singlish, that's our identity. The challenge is...has it come to a point where it interferes with us speaking either of the two languages properly?
Why don't you go ask 10 people in your office how many know how to say the word "cashier" in mandarin and then you might get an idea which planet you're coming from.
There are so many words to pick from. Throw it at someone among us and they may not know how to say too.

Some people accept "singlish" as the Singaporean identity.
I am not one of those. It is only a bastard language to me.
Singlish is the bastard child of Lee Kuan Yew's garbage language policies.
Singlish is Harry Lee Kuan Yew's bastard.
Lee Kuan Yew himself also has an identity problem, it is fitting that his child is also a rojak bastard.
Head is bastard, what comes out is also a bastard.

Singlish cannot be helped, it goes back a long way in our nation building. It's the language education policies that come about thereafter that's key. It also has a lot to do with mainstream media.
If you ask me, I would say no to Singlish but we can't deny the fact that it's us. Languages being mixed together too much is not a good thing. Imagine England having their language mixed with Punjabi and Mandarin, can 500 years later....the masses say that it is acceptable?
