New ITE courses to meet demand in aerospace, chemical industries
SINGAPORE: The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) is starting new courses in emerging high—growth industries next month, giving secondary school leavers more opportunities to learn.
The new National ITE Certificate (NITEC) Aerospace Avionics course and the NITEC in Chemical Process Technology (Process Instrumentation) course are expected to meet skilled manpower demands in the aerospace and chemical industries.
It is estimated that over 2,000 skilled personnel will be needed in the aerospace industry over the next ten years.
With several new multi—billion—dollar chemical plants set to be completed in the next two to three years, prospects for ITE graduates in chemical processing are bright.
Industry sources welcome the new courses.
Rotary Engineering LimitedÂ’s human resources director Rick Goh said graduates of the new NITEC in Chemical Process Technology (Process Instrumentation) will be in high demand.
"The process industry is expected to grow at an exponential rate over the next few years, with the oil majorsÂ’ commitment to invest an estimated US$6 billion to US$8 billion in Jurong Island further strengthening SingaporeÂ’s position as one of the top three oil refining centres in the world," he said.
Other new full—time NITEC courses that will start in January 2008 include Electrical Technology (Lighting and Sound), Hair Fashion & Design, and Pastry & Baking. — CNA/ac
