Newcastle United midfielder Nicky Butt has a chance of making the trip to Birmingham City after his ankle injury responded to treatment.
Butt, who missed the Barclays Premiership clash with former club Manchester United on Monday, is the most likely member of Glenn RoederÂ’s walking wounded to return at St Andrews, where he spent last season on loan.
Emre is struggling with a groin injury, while Scott Parker is suspended. Damien Duff, Michael Owen and Charles NÂ’Zogbia (all knee), Shola Ameobi and Olivier Bernard (both hip), Celestine Babayaro and Craig Moore (both hamstring), Titus Bramble (calf) and Stephen Carr (foot) remain on the sidelines.
Midfielder Kieron Dyer is desperate to rekindle the clubÂ’s love affair with the FA Cup - the competition which brought the Magpies their last piece of domestic silverware in 1955 - as a new campaign gets under way.
He said: “I want to be here at Newcastle when we do win something.
“I have heard the stories when we lost in the FA Cup final in 1998 and 1999 and thousands lined the streets of Newcastle to applaud an open-top bus with no trophy.
“We have got to go down to Birmingham with all guns blazing and be in the hat for the next round.
“Every player wants to win in an FA Cup final some day. I am no different and everybody here feels the same. We all want to win it.
“We have a tricky tie, but we have had tricky ties in the past and progressed."

Championship leaders Birmingham overcame the first-half dismissal of Radhi Jaidi to claim a last-gasp 2-2 draw against Newcastle United at St Andrews.
FA Cup specialist Dudley Campbell opened the scoring and Steven Taylor levelled the scores before Kieron Dyer and Sebastian Larsson - four minutes from time - ensured the sides would meet again.

Newcastle United imploded at St James' Park as Birmingham deservedly claimed a Barclays Premiership scalp to reach the FA Cup fourth round thanks to a 5-1 victory.
Chairman Freddy Shepherd, who had earlier praised the efforts of the clubÂ’s youngsters, sat stony-faced in the directorsÂ’ box having witnessed the biggest home defeat since Manchester UnitedÂ’s 6-2 win in April 2006.
To make matters worse Steven Taylor, who was dismissed in the second half, and emergency full-back Nolberto Solano now both face suspensions for important Barclays Premiership games.
The visitors needed only five minutes to take the lead, Gary McSheffrey collecting Sebastian LarssonÂ’s half-cleared cross to thump a shot past Shay Given and set the stage for a shock.
The Magpies fleetingly looked as though they might drag themselves back into it as Matty Pattison, Obafemi Martins and Antoine Sibierski tried their luck from distance, but to little effect, and in was the visitors who extended their lead on the stroke of half-time.
Cameron Jerome slipped away from Taylor on the right and drilled a cross to the far post where Solano, under pressure from DJ Campbell, put through his own goal.
Newcastle came out more determined in the second period and their pressure paid off in the 56th minute when James Milner ran on to SibierskiÂ’s lay-off and smashed in a right-foot shot from 25 yards.
However, any hopes of a comeback were torn apart within a minute when Taylor tugged back Campbell, then clipped his heels and was sent off.
Larsson drove the resulting free-kick into the defensive wall but the ball ricocheted to Bruno NÂ’Gotty, and he lashed it into the net to restore his sideÂ’s two-goal advantage.
The agony was far from over for Newcastle, Larsson and Campbell compounding the misery with 83rd and 89th-minute strikes to make it a black night for Geordies.
