Four children have been sent to hospital for smoke inhalation after fire broke out at a flat in Block 223, Toa Payoh Lorong 8 this morning.
They were among 80 residents evacuated from the 24 storey block.
The fire broke out at the 20th storey flat at about 5.30am. More than 15 fire fighters arrived at the scene five minutes later. They put out the blaze in 20 minutes.
They had to take the stairs to the 20th storey as the only lift in the block was not in operation.
They also evacuated occupants from the 19th to 24th storey as a safety precaution.
These included a 26 month old boy and three girls, aged five, seven and nine years old, who were later sent by Civil defence ambulances to the KK Women's and Children's Hospital.
The SCDF is investigating the cause of the fire. - CNA
