SINGAPORE : Hong Kong superstar Lydia Sum and the motley characters in her household will be moving back into Singapore's living rooms again starting next Tuesday, when the new season of "Living With Lydia" starts airing.
But it will be the show's last season on Channel 5.
It was a teary farewell for Ng Hui, who plays Lydia's daughter Apple, in the sitcom, which is popular in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan and even available on cable in the US.
But it was Lydia's nemesis Billly B Ong, played by Samuel Chong, who summed up their off-air relationships best.
"With the cast members as well, the bond is strong on and off camera; we're just like a family," he said.
And both lead actors credited each other for their success.
"It was a great experience working with her. We've become very good working companions and we've also become the best of friends and soul mates," Mr Chong said.
On her part, Lydia Sum said, "I want to thank Uncle Sam; he spent a lot of time teaching me how to speak English; that's why I improved a lot."
Living with Lydia is her first English sitcom and the show helped her clinch last year's Asian Television award for best actress in a comedy.
In the upcoming season, Lydia will play an opera actress, a ghost and a Singapore Idol wannabe.
"In the script, I wanted to take part in Singapore Idol but they thought I was too old, so I got angry and kidnapped the judge, forcing him to listen to my singing," she said.
Asked who she thought might be the next Singapore Idol, she picked rocker Sylvester Sim.
The last 13 episodes of Living with Lydia starts airing Tuesday 16 November, and among the surprises -- a character on the show will be getting married. - CNA
