The Institute of Technical Education has taken steps to help improve the quality of customer service in Singapore.
It is introducing a one year course on retail service skills in January that will focus on customer service with practical learning and real-work experience.
ITE says the course, which will lead to a National ITE Certificate in Service Skills (Retail), will provide students with the skills, knowledge and real-life experience to meet the service standards and demands of the growing retail industry.
The latest Global Competitiveness Report by the World Economic Forum shows Singapore taking a dip in customer service.
It slipped to 21st position, down from 11th last year.
Deputy Secretary General of the National Trades Union Congress Lim Swee Say had said this could be because Singapore was not improving fast enough in service standards compared to other countries. - CNA
