SINGAPORE : It could soon be cheaper for Malaysian cars to drive down into Singapore.
The government is currently reviewing regulations on this, in a bid to encourage more visitors, says Trade & Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang at the Singapore-Malaysia forum.
Besides increasing passenger flow on the ground, it's also looking to boost air links with more low cost carriers.
The Land Transport Authority has already reduced the costs of vehicle entry permits by ten dollars earlier this month while toll charges at the Causeway and Second Link remain unchanged.
Currently, foreign-registered vehicles pay tolls of between 50 cents to $14.50 when entering Singapore.
"We are reviewing all this because conditions have changed. Car prices have moved, so how we adjust the fees in relation to all these changes is something we have to look at. We want to encourage more Malaysians to visit Singapore and the most practical way they come is by car. We're also hoping to faciliate more low cost carriers, so we are looking at all these areas," said Trade and Industry Minister Lim Hng Kiang.
