Singapore couple honeymooning in New Zealand die in car crash
SINGAPORE: A newly-wed Singapore couple, on their honeymoon in New Zealand, died in a car accident last Friday.
The accident took place near Mangaweka, some 200km north of New Zealand's capital Wellington.
The couple, both teachers, were driving in their rented car when it collided head-on with a truck from the New Zealand Post.
The Singapore couple and the truck driver all died on the spot.
27-year old Ho Poh Yoke and 31-year old John Lim Chih Hong were married on 6 November.
They'd left for their honeymoon in New Zealand on 5 December, planning to stay on there till Christmas Eve.
John was a physical education teacher at Nanyang Junior College for the last four years while Ho taught PE and mathematics at Peirce Secondary.
Those who worked with the couple were deeply saddened by the tragedy.
Richard Chew, principal of Peirce Secondary School, said: "Miss Ho is a very loveable person, well liked by her students, her colleagues. She's very hardworking. She'll always go beyond the call of duty to help her students in their work. Very pastoral in nature."
Tan Hui Miang, vice principal of Nanyang Junior College, said: "A very careful, very good team player. A committed young man. He always volunteers himself for jobs beyond his job scope. All these years, whenever we have urgent matters, John will volunteer himself."
The couple's family members are in New Zealand to bring back the bodies of their loved ones.
