The ban on live duck imports from Perak will be lifted from Saturday.
The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority had accredited 36 duck farms which can export to Singapore.
The AVA has worked with its Malaysian counterpart to establish 2 bird flu free zones in Perak, similar to what was done in Johor and Malacca for poultry and egg imports back in September.
But the ducks will probably make it into Singapore on Monday, at the earliest.
AVA says time is needed for pre-export bird flu testing and for the industry to get organised.
Prior to the ban, Perak supplied 90 per cent of ducks eaten here.
But the ban on individuals bringing in poultry and poultry products from Malaysia still stands.
It is a precaution to ensure that only poultry and poultry products from AVA-accredited farms are brought in.
With the lifting of the ban, 36 AVA-accredited duck farms in Perak will be able to export to Singapore. - CNA
