SINGAPORE : Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean have arrived in Medan, Indonesia, to see at first hand the damage that has been caused as a result of last week's earthquake and tsunami disaster.
Prime Minister Lee will visit Banda Aceh and Meulaboh where Singapore's armed forces and civil defence men are in full swing to help with the recovery efforts.
Singapore has sent its largest ever humanitarian relief mission following the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia.
Singapore is also helping out with the relief efforts in Phuket.
On Monday, the Foreign Ministry announced that the United Nations will set up a regional coordination centre in Singapore and use the Republic's air and naval bases to carry out relief operations in tsunami-devastated areas of Indonesia.
Singapore's package includes the use of its air and naval bases as well as aircraft and helicopter carriers and the setting up of a UN Regional Coordinating Centre, the ministry said. - CNA
