SINGAPORE: It was a sea of red on Saturday at the Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza on Orchard Road as crowds turned up in red attire for the Lions soccer team's Tiger Cup victory celebration.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong graced the occasion and was presented with the Tiger Cup trophy by the victorious national team.
Crowds - young and old - screamed with excitement as their favourite players arrived at the victory celebration.
Addressing the crowd, FAS president, Associate Professor Ho Peng Kee, declared: "We're the football champion of South East Asia! I want to say a big thank you to the Lions, the entire coaching staff, to all of you fans out there."
He also thanked PM Lee for laying the groundwork for Singapore football when he launched the National Football Academy four years ago.
The celebration reached a feverish pitch when captain Aide Iskandar presented the Tiger Cup trophy to the Prime Minister.
The next target for the Lions will be the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, and fans can definitely look forward to seeing more of the players in action. - CNA
