SINGAPORE : NTUC has welcomed the changes made to the MediShield scheme, in particular, the Health Ministry's decision to give out loyalty discounts to elderly Singaporeans aged 70 and above, so as to make the premiums more affordable for them.
But NTUC has also urged the Ministry to consider extending the loyalty discounts to those between the ages of 60 and 70 years old.
It also urged the Government to top up the MediSave accounts of the older generation when there are budget surpluses as elderly Singaporeans might not have the opportunity to accumulate enough MediSave savings to pay for the MediShield premiums.
NTUC says that with the MediShield review nearing completion, it's timely that efforts are now focused on how to implement a "Portable Medical Benefits Scheme" for workers. - CNA
