SINGAPORE : The Minister of State for Education has clarified that it's not a cut in the Chinese Language syllabus, but only a cut in the text so that teachers will be required to teach less.
Mr Chan Soo Sen explained the move will free up time for teachers to be more innovative in their teaching methods.
The syllabus, he says, refers to the outcome of the teaching, which will remain the same.
He also added no decision has been made to do away with the EM3 stream - which was a suggestion by a primary education task force set up two years ago.
"When we receive suggestions like these, we will definitely look at it. It does not follow that we will implement every single suggestion that are raised because these are basically just public feedback. I suppose if you want to ask me this way, then yes we will look into it. If we're going to do something as drastic as this, then definitely the public will be told. So, at the moment, nothing." said Mr Chan. - CNA
