SINGAPORE : The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports plans to offer more free facilities to encourage Singaporeans to participate in sports.
Acting Minister Vivian Balakrishnan said more details would be given in two weeks when Parliament debates the Committee of Supply.
He was speaking at the launch of Ulu Pandan's first street soccer court - which aims to give youths more space to play the fast-paced sport.
It is expected to cater to some 80 children around the area and will be open 13 hours daily.
Dr Vivian said: "We need to provide more free facilities wherever possible for the public to get involved in sports, just sports for fun, sports for all.
"The key point is we want to provide maximum opportunities for all Singaporeans to participate in sports, in schools, in the neighbourhood, in community clubs." - CNA
