While many Singaporeans were out around the island visiting family and friends - others spent the first day of the Year of the Rooster getting close to animals of the Chinese zodiac at the Singapore Zoo.
Some Singaporeans were ushering in the Year of the Rooster with a difference - with friends of the feathered kind
Eight golden pheasants were specially brought in by the Singapore Zoo for the New Year festivities.
You could also choose any animal from the Chinese zodiac you fancy, from the rabbit to the snake, the horse and even the komodo dragon.
Visitors also got to learn more about the animals, from their habits to what they eat.
The Wildlife Reserves say the well-being of the animals is important - and precautions are taken to help the animals cope with all the attention they're getting.
Assistant Curator for the Wildlife Reserves Bernard Nathan explains, "We will undertake and observe the behaviour of the animals to see how they react in such situations. If we notice the animals are acting different, we will basically reduce the contact between the animal and visitors, or put them in a shaded area to get some rest."
You can even check out what the Rooster year holds for you at the Zodiac trail - which will be on till 23rd February. - CNA
