PUB has tied up with some final-year communications students from Nanyang Technological University on a pilot project to promote water conservation messages to lower primary students.
Called Project Water Detective Kidz, it aims to teach students the importance of water in Singapore and how they should conserve, value and enjoy water.
This is done via a three-day interactive skit, a song and creative learning materials.
The project was held from January to March in three primary schools - New Town Primary, Henry Park Primary and Blangah Rise Primary.
To engage the lower primary students, the NTU undergrads had used various tactics to weave in the water conservation messages.
For example, during recess over three days, the children cheer on a water detective who is hot on the heels of a water-wasting villain.
The students also receive a water detective kit, learn a song on conserving water, and participate in a colouring contest.
On Wednesday morning, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Yaacob Ibrahim joined students of Blangah Rise Primary for the programme finale.
The project is the result of an exchange of creative ideas between PUB and the School of Communication and Information at NTU.
It has turned out to be a multi-disciplinary learning experience for the NTU students.
Besides conceptualising the project, scripting and filming the skit, composing and recording the water song, they will also carry out pre-event and post-event surveys to assess the effectiveness of their project in conveying the water conservation messages to the students. - CNA
