Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew urges residents to vote for lif

SINGAPORE: Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew says that the government will ensure that Singaporeans' assets will increase in value as the country grows.
And one way is to offer main upgrading or lift upgrading programmes to residents to enhance the value of their flats.
Speaking the launch of the lift upgrading programme at the Spottiswoode Park precinct, Mr Lee urged the residents to vote in favour of the programme, or miss their chance to enhance their assets while the economy is good.
Mr Lee said, "We cannot repeat what we did in the 1970, 80s and 90s when we had a good growing economy, and budget surpluses every year. Now with ageing pop, going up, the costs of health and the other problems with an ageing pop and not enough workers, the budget, revenue and expenditure is a lot less and that includes the money we save and put aside over $100 billion over 3 decades, the interest from that we are losing every year."
"If you miss this chance, it will not come round again for many years, then you are not only inconveniencing all those old people who need to stop on every floor, but this may not come back for a very long time because the budget is getting tighter and tighter every year as the demand for the budget increase every year. For those who are not staying in this block and have let them out, don't be short sighted, don't be penny wise, you'll miss this chance of your asset, your property increasing in price so I urge you to mobilise all your friends who had let out their flat, get them back and vote for there's not any other government is doing this, the Singapore government does it, because we are special and we want to make our citizens feel that they are owners of the place," added Mr Lee. - CNA -

yeah but shouldn't they also follow govt actions ... Outsource to India or get cheap FT to do the job. Seriously singapore is too small to support a full blown construction industry.
we don't have enough land for much development anways.. sg should focus on whats really good and the main skill sets. Then go develop them. The scatter shot method the govt is going makes me feel so uncomfotable.
Let me put it this way, india has cheap and very good world class medical centers and biomeds institutions. China as alternative meds all this time and over the years scientifically proven their meds. S'pore only now then wanna booast the meds industry... give it a couple of yrs and India will over take us and lots of biomed students will be left high and dry...
Anyways, i feel the vision is so myopic and unrealistic. Obviously they don't know what is Porter's 5 forces and what these people doing when they attend seminars from Edward De Bono, Michael Porter or all those thousand dollar seminars. -
