  SINGAPORE : The Workers' Party wants the casino decision to be put off till the next General Election - so that people can decide on the issue at the ballot box.
  
  Its Secretary-General Low Thia Khiang, who is also MP for Hougang, said this at a public consultation exercise on Saturday.
  
  He said the decision to open a casino would have implications for society as a whole, and so a wider consensus is needed.
  
  While the Workers' Party has yet to decide on its stand, Mr Low said he is against the casino idea.
  
  Many views were heard during the two-hour long forum - which discussed the economic impact and social costs of having a casino. - CNA

  cause they are thinking that by going this way, they actually have a fighting chance against PAP coz in a yahoo poll, it shows that more singaporean disagree to the idea of having a casino. yea this idea is plain stupid. the control of singapore isn't child's play nor is it a gamble. the elections and casino should be treated as seperate issues, but i must admit no matter whats the outcome of the casino, PAP is gonna lose some support so i reckon the elections won't be held so soon.

  What's wrong with a referendum unless those in power have already made up their mind like they have done thousands of times before, and feedback is just another bone to trick the dog?

  In the recent Western Australian state elections(in a country where literacy levels are way lower than SG,), they had a concurrent referendum on longer trading hours for small businesses outside of City Of Perth district.Three weeks before the vote, fact sheets outlining both sides fo the arguments were distributed to each household.The points are printed in clear and straightfoward language.
  
  What we can do here is for the Elections Commission to do the same, but present both sides of the argument in the four major languages.Laziness in exercising our democratic rights only serves to mean that we do not deserve to live as a civilised and proud society, but a people in the chains of apathy.
