SINGAPORE: Education Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam has apologised to students for his ministry's mishandling of the Joint Admission Exercise for post-secondary education.
He acknowledged that many students were inconvenienced by the new way of applying to post-secondary institutions.
Students had experienced slowness in accessing the Education Ministry's online system.
The Education Minister said this was because the system had a limited capacity.
But he said this problem has since been rectified.
And as of Monday morning, close to 100 percent of the expected number of applicants have already registered successfully.
The Minister made these comments to reporters after touring Fuhua Primary School on Monday morning.
He revealed that 16 primary schools had been named recipients under the Inaugural Programme for School Based Excellence.
Under this scheme, schools would receive a grant of up to $100,000 to further raise the quality of their programmes and initiatives.
Admiralty Primary, Hougang Primary and CHIJ St Nicholas Primary School were among the recipients of the programme. - NewsRadio 93.8
