SINGAPORE : Singapore Airlines (SIA) announced on Monday promotional fares of S$98 (US$60) for return trips from the Republic to seven Asian cities, amid rising competition from budget carriers.
The seven destination cities are Bangkok, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Hanoi, Taipei, Shenzhen and Perth, the carrier said in a statement.
Bookings for the promotion can only be made between Monday and Thursday this week over SIA's website, while the flights must be taken between March 27 and April 14.
The fares are a steep discount to SIA's normal rates.
A standard return trip to Hanoi with SIA normally costs 550 dollars, excluding taxes and fuel surcharges.
The promotional rates exclude taxes and fuel surcharges.
SIA said the offer was part of the airline's commitment to "providing customers with a range of attractive fares", although the promotion comes as the premium carrier faces intense competition from low-cost airlines.
Three budget carriers - Tiger Airways, Jetstar Asia and Valuair - have set up in Singapore over the past year and their destinations include all the cities involved in SIA's promotion, except for Shenzhen. - AFP
